I bought the van at auction, a scary process as it is rather a lottery. I keep fingers crossed that I bought the right van that will serve me well during the building process.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DYUOB8fTiu0/SVnJj66RBLI/AAAAAAAACwM/eAy_KoiGCjQ/s400/redweeds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285477256642233522" />

Lots of weeds, more than a meter high, are making way for a tiny vege plot. Lots of bracken, black berry, Jasmin vines (smell beautiful but a real pest here), wild fennel. It will all be composted and recycled on-site. I took time to enjoy the fading sunlight on the eastern ranges, the view from where I am living, next door to where I will be building my new house. Days like this are the best and making this location so wonderful, but even is wild weather it is a beautiful place on this planet. How amazing to have such a view in a capital city.

I have been here 10 days now and have been working daily on designing the house and considering the placement options on the land taking in consideration the height limitations. I think I am almost there and after lots of wishful plans I have come back to a basic version which will be the one I can most likely afford. I have cleared a section in the garden of weeds (1.5 meters high) and started planting the start of a vege/herb garden. I also made a mailbox of recycled timber, now all I need is a house to follow. Met with an engineer on site to talk about structural options. So it is happening. In the mean time I am looking still for a van that will make me mobile as well as help me cart stuff around.

I have no idea yet how long it will take me to build this house, or if I have sufficient funds to actually build it.

By the end of week two I want to have the rough sketch designs of the house ready and weather permitting I hope to do some more clearing in the garden.
